Pre Op Recommendations
- Be in best possible mental and physical health before surgery.
Medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and cardiac problems should be stabilized prior to surgery. You must aware Dr. Arguello of any of these events.
- Medical clearance, EKG, urinalysis, and preop blood tests (full blood count, clotting profile, electrolytes, blood type) should be taken before surgery.
- No aspirin or aspirin containing products for at least two weeks prior to surgery. These may interfere with blood clotting and may increase bleeding during the surgery.
- Oral contraceptives should be discontinued four weeks prior to surgery.
- Please let Dr. Arguello know if you are under any medical treatment specially:
Anticoagulants (i.e. coumadin)
Diuretics
Insulin or oral hypoglycemic drugs
Medications for high blood pressure
Thyroid supplements
Contraceptive pills.
- Two weeks prior to surgery STOP:
Drinking alcohol
Smoking or chewing tobacco
Vitamin E
Saint John’s Wort
Garlic
Ginseng
- Do not wear make up, creams or lotions or gel on the day of surgery.
- Remove your contact lenses the day of surgery.
- Brush your teeth and take a regular shower in the morning the day of surgery.
- Shampoo and shower twice the day before surgery.
- Do not eat or drink anything after midnight, the night before surgery.
- If you take routine medications, please let Dr. Arguello know about it.
- In general you can take a sip of water to take those pills the morning before surgery.
Wear confortable loose fitting clothes. Avoid anything that must be put over your head if you are having facial, breast, or abdominal surgery. Do not wear high heels or tight jeans. Do not wear rings, jewelry or nail polish. Leave all valuables at home.
Please purchase a pair of thigh high TED stockings and apply while lying flat.
